Sweet Pickins Milk Paint is a true milk paint which comes in a powder form.  Our Milk Paint is environmentally safe, non-toxic and is food safe. There is a slight milky scent when it is applied, but it is completely odorless once dry.  Our milk paint is 100% VOC free and is made with all natural earth materials.

Milk paint will adhere to raw wood, but will crackle and chip when applied to finished surfaces, creating an authentic vintage farmhouse look. The use of hot air will achieve a heavier chippy look

✮ To make the paint, you simply mix the powder with warm water.  How far the paint goes will depend upon your painting technique, how thick or thin you mix your paint, how many coats you do and the contrast between the color your are painting compared to the piece your are painting.

  • 2 oz. sample – covers apprx 12 sq ft.
  • 6 oz. pint – covers apprx 36 sq ft.
  • 12 oz. quart – covers apprx 72 sq ft.
  • 48 oz. gallon – covers apprx 288 sq ft.

Add Extra Bond when painting over a nonporous or previously finished/painted piece of furniture.  The Extra – Bond will ensure adhesion and give you better control over chipping.  I highly recommend to always have the Extra Bond on hand when using milk paint.  Milk paint is known for its unpredictability when not using the Extra Bond.

Full instructions on how to use our paint are included in packaging.

New to Milk Paint? You've got this!

Just add water!

  1. Mix it
Combine 1 part warm water to 1 part powder and stir until dissolved, appx 2-3 min. (whites tend to stay more clumpy, so keep mixing!) The average consistency should be like a melted Milkshake. Paint Immediately, if your liquid paint sits IT WILL thicken. Stir your liquid paint as you go, appx every 10min. to keep a good consistency.
  • To make a pint of liquid paint~9oz water + 1-pint bag of powdered milk paint
  • To make a quart of liquid paint~18oz of water + a quart bag of powdered milk paint.

2. Paint it
Using any brush, apply to your surface. Each coat dries within 15-30 minutes (yep – speedy!) and can be re-coated immediately once dried, if desired

3. Finish it
Apply a top coat to seal your milk paint and bring out the true depth of color! This will also protect your paint for a finish that lasts generations. Sweet Pickins Oil Wax, or Final Finish Top Coat are great, easy to use options!

TIP: Add Extra Bond when painting over a nonporous or previously finished/painted piece of furniture.  The Extra – Bond will ensure adhesion and give you better control over chipping.  I highly recommend to always have the Extra Bond on hand when using milk paint.  Milk paint is known for its unpredictability when not using the Extra Bond.

APPLICATIONS

Sweet Pickins Milk Paint can be used to achieve an authentic “old look” for furniture, floors, cupboards, woodwork, walls, signs, toys, and stenciling. It penetrates into all clean, porous (unfinished) surfaces. Mixed with Sweet Pickins Extra Bond it will also adhere to just about any nonporous surface. With a clear topcoat to seal the painted surface, it can be used for furniture subject to fingerprints and spills. For surfaces expected to receive heavier wear, we recommend using a heavy-duty topcoat. An oil or solvent-based sealer is recommended for kitchen cabinets as acrylics may not protect against certain kitchen oils such as grease splatters and olive oil spills.

Sweet Pickins Milk Paint is used by artists and craftsmen to create decorative results that cannot be achieved with other paints. The dead flat, uneven, grainy/mottled look is quite distinctive.

Sweet Pickins Milk Paint is also used for interior walls, floors and woodwork in homes, offices and public areas used by people allergic or otherwise sensitive to chemically based paints.

WHAT IS MILK PAINT?

Milk paint is made up of milk protein, lime and then natural pigments from the earth to color the paint.  True milk paint comes in a powder form and must be mixed with water.  There are a lot of imitations out there – if its pre mixed then its NOT a true milk paint and wont give you the same results

Milk Paint is 100% VOC free and is truly a green paint.  It can be used on anything from walls to furniture, metal, glass, concrete, masonry and bare wood.

The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co has been producing and selling milk paint since 1974 and is the oldest manufacturer of true milk paint.  The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co is the manufacturer of  Sweet Pickins Milk Paint!
